Description of Content
Three women standing in front of a wooden lattice gateway. This photograph shows Mavis May, Adele Smith and Joyce Livermore, Brunswick West, 1943. Adele Smith was Joyce's mother. The family remembers: 'All these women were at home, missing their boys who were away at war. Husbands, sons and brother, all gone.' Adele Smith is wearing her 'Female Relatives Badge', issued by the Commonwealth Government for women whose husbands and sons were serving at war. She had two sons serving. The Australian War Memorial website refers to the Female Relative's Badge, and gives a closer view of it. The badge reads: 'To the women of Australia'. http://www.awm.gov.au/encyclopedia/badges/female_relative.htm
