This is a group photograph of Williamstown Fire Brigade, 1928. According to his granddaughter, George Hogarty was a member of the Williamstown Fire Brigade in the late 1920s and early 1930s. Later he worked at the Eastern Hill Fire Station. He arrived in Australia from Dublin in January 1923. He had been a court recorder at Dublin Castle as a member of the Royal Irish Constabulary. There was a Civil War going on between 1922 and 1923, and George 'had to leave in a hurry.' He worked as a fireman in various capacities until he died in 1944.
