Description of Content
This stereograph shows twin images of Australian Stockmen riding horses in a parade through an elaborate arch for the Duke of York's visit for Federation in 1901. This Rose's stereograph shows the Stockmen's Parade, part of the Federation celebrations on 7 May 1901. The parade also welcomed the Duke and Duchess of York who were visiting Melbourne to open Australia's first Federal Parliament. This parade of Australian stockmen on horseback are pictured riding through 'the Queen's Arch' on Collins Street in Melbourne. This collection of stereographs came from Melba Ryan's grandparents, Josephine and Martin Nowlan. A lot of them were bought around the date of Federation as souvenirs. They were passed down to Melba's Mum, Doris Holden, who passed them down to her.
