Description of Content
A man in a 'cow-boy' hat spinning a lasso in Showgrounds, with a roofed audience 'grand-stand' behind him. The photograph is hand-tinted. This photograph shows Ernie Holden, rope spinning at the Royal Show Grounds, Ascot Vale, circa 1910. His daughter Melba Ryan remembers: 'At Show time, Ernie was always engaged to perform in the main arena. Living in Kensington, it was only walking distance to the Show Grounds. Ernest Holden's show name was 'Ernie Gordon'. A well-known South African group of flyers came over to Australia, called the Flying Jordons. Ernest liked the name and changed it slightly.'
