Summary
Digital photograph of the Holden Bros Circus, 1932-1933.
This photograph shows Mary Daley (or Daly), her niece Melba Holden, and Mary's son Pat having a camel ride, circa 1932-1933. Melba remembers: 'Holden Brothers Circus' never had camels.' Melba is not sure if this one belonged to another circus the Holdens met up with. The boy holding the camel is unknown. 'Camels were very unusual back then. It was a big deal to ride one. The Holden cousins Frankie and Barry later worked at the Ettamogah Pub just out of Albury, doing camel rides. Most family members kept their hand in with some kind of work related to circuses, even if they stopped travelling with them. It was hard to change jobs.'
The location is unknown.
