Description of Content
Three children and a man seated, holding blue crabs in front of circus trucks. This photograph shows Joy Holden, Stan Holden, Melba Holden all holding blue crabs, and Ray Kelroy standing in the background, holding a crab over Stan's head. It was taken where the Holden Brothers Circus set up camp in Port Lincoln in South Australia, circa early 1930s. Melba is not sure whether they bought them from the Pier, or caught them themselves. This photograph would have been taken during the same South Australia tour as MM111171 in the early 1930s. 'If Ernie saw a creek he'd take out a line to fish, and if there were mushrooms he'd stop the car, regardless of whether they were supposed to be in the next town or not. The Kelroys travelled with the Holdens for a number of years. They did a wire act, a 'Risley' act (hand balancing, tumbling feet-to-feet, balancing). Ray's sister Phyllis Kelroy became 'Mrs Doug Ashton', of Ashton's Circus. Stan's family would come on holidays and travel with the circus. '
