Summary
Cigar case presented to Commander G.F. Dennis by the Duke of Cornwall & York during his visit to Australia in May 1901 to open the first Commonwealth Parliament of Australia. Commander Dennis, Royal Navy, was stationed in Victoria at the time that the Royal Yacht Ophir was sailing for Colombo. Commander Dennis was instructed by the Admiralty to meet the Royal vessel there and sail it to Melbourne. The cigar case (and partner cigarette case) was presented to Commander Dennis prior to the Duke's leaving the Royal Yacht for the Queensland leg of his tour.
