Summary

Packet of 'ANCOL' branded foolscap white blank typewriter paper, manufactured and/or distributed in Australia by the Associated Newsagents' Co-operative Limited, about 1970-1988.

'ANCOL' branded stationery products were distributed by the Associated Newagents' Co-operative Ltd, an organisation originally formed by fourteen like-minded Sydney-based newsagents who first formed a trade alliance in 1891 to facilitate more competitive group buying of stationery products and negotiate united distribution agreements with powerful newspaper proprietors and publishers. The 'ANCOL' brandname was introduced after the organisation was floated as a public company under the title Associated Newagents' Co-operative Limited following World War II. By 1976, the organisation boasted 1,200 member newsagents across New South Wales and the Australian Capital Territory, but subsequently ran into financial difficulties and was sold off to Westmex after being placed into receivership in February 1988, before being later acquired by Linkline.
