Summary
Pale blue satin ribbon cut at the ceremony to mark the opening of the first section of the Calder Freeway, at Niddrie, Victoria, on Friday 21st April, 1972. The ceremony was presided over by The Hon Alan John Hunt, MLC, Minister for Local Government under the Bolte Liberal State Government. The ceremony was held at the Tullamarine Interchange near the south-west corner of Essendon Airport, where the Calder Freeway splits off from the Tullamarine Freeway, heading north-west to Kyneton, Bendigo and ultimately Mildura.
Councillor Graeme Fullarton represented the City of Keilor at the ceremony and keep half of the ribbon as a memento after the event.
Physical Description
Light blue satin ribbon measuring approximately 2 inches (50 mm) wide x 4.25 metres long. Rolled and tied with a narrow piece of white satin ribbon.
