The pictorial history was instigated by the centenary of the Exhibition Building in 1980 and forms part of a larger Royal Exhibition Building collection of documents, photographs, objects and research files.

Sketch of the Exhibition Building with flags flying during the Melbourne International Exhibition, 1880-1881. View is from the Nicholson Street side of the Carlton Gardens looking north west over the lake to the Exhibition Building. In the foreground are people walking and sitting by the lake.

A black & white silver gelatin print on a page of a photograph album. At the top of the page is the seal of the Exhibition Trustees and a title for the album. There is no caption.
