The pictorial history was instigated by the centenary of the Exhibition Building in 1980 and forms part of a larger Royal Exhibition Building collection of documents, photographs, objects and research files.

The view is looking west from Nicholson Street towards the eastern nave entrance to the Exhibition Buidling, and includes the Centennial Hall and the Grollo Fountain in front of the main entrance to the Hall on the eastern side before Nicholson Street.
