Summary

Colour photograph of the eastern nave of the Exhibition Buildings with the recently completed Centennial Hall on the right, circa 1981. The nave is reflected in the Hall's mirrored glass facade and the French fountain is visible surrounded by small trees on the centre of the traffic island.

This is one of 959 photographs (or images) of the Exhibition Building collated by the Exhibition Trustees as a 10 volume pictorial history of the Exhibition Building spanning the years 1880 to 1985. The pictorial history was instigated by the centenary of the Exhibition Building in 1980 and forms part of a larger Royal Exhibition Building collection of documents, photographs, objects and research files.

The image is taken from near the Nicholson Street entrance to the Exhibition Buildings and shows both the eastern nave of the Exhibition Building and the newly completed Centennial Hall on the right of image. The eastern nave is reflected in the Hall's mirrored glass facade. In the middleground, the French fountain installed at the time of the 1880 Melbourne International Exhibition is visible surrounded by small trees on the traffic island. Australian flags are flying from the roof of the Exhibition Building. There is a printed caption below the photograph.
