Summary

Black & white photograph of HRH Princess Alexandra shaking hands with the Victorian Premier, Rupert "Dick" Hamer, upon arrival out the front of Centennial Hall at the Royal Exhibition Buildings, taken on the occasion of the centenary of the Buildings on 1 October 1980. Also present are the Exhibition Trustees Chairman, Mr Freeman Strickland, OBE, Her Royal Highness' husband, the Hon. Angus Ogilvy, and the wife of the Premier, Mrs April Hamer.

This is one of 959 photographs (or images) of the Exhibition Building collated by the Exhibition Trustees as a 10 volume pictorial history of the Exhibition Building spanning the years 1880 to 1985. The pictorial history was instigated by the centenary of the Exhibition Building in 1980 and forms part of a larger Royal Exhibition Building collection of documents, photographs, objects and research files.

Image depicts HRH Princess Alexandra shaking hands with the Victorian Premier, Rupert "Dick" Hamer, upon arrival out the front of Centennial Hall at the Royal Exhibition Buildings, taken on the occasion of the centenary of the Buildings on 1 October 1980. In the background, immediately behind Her Royal Highness, are (from left) the Exhibition Trustees Chairman, Mr Freeman Strickland, OBE, Her Royal Highness' husband, the Hon. Angus Ogilvy, and on the extreme right of the image, standing next to her husband, Mrs. April Hamer, the wife of the Premier. Behind them in the background is a stand of bleaches full of school children.
