This is one of 959 photographs (or images) of the Exhibition Building collated by the Exhibition Trustees as a 10 volume pictorial history of the Exhibition Building spanning the years 1880 to 1985. The pictorial history was instigated by the centenary of the Exhibition Building in 1980 and forms part of a larger Royal Exhibition Building collection of documents, photographs, objects and research files.

The image depicts HRH Princess Alexandra talking with Exhibition Trustees Deputy Chairman, Mr KL Christian, upon arrival out the front of Centennial Hall at the Royal Exhibition Buildings, taken on the occasion of the centenary of the Buildings on 1 October 1980. Mrs Christian stands on the far left of the image in a patterned dress and hat with netting, to her left stands her husband, Mr KL Christian and to the left of Her Royal Highness stands the Exhibition Trustees Chairman, Mr Freeman Strickland, OBE. In the background behind Her Royal Highness are the Lord Mayor, Councillor John Woodruff, the Lady Mayoress, HRH's husband, the Hon Angus Ogilvy, the Hon. Norman Lacy, MP, Minister for the Arts (partly obscurred) and the Premier, the Hon. Rupert 'Dick' Hamer and his wife. There is a printed caption below the photograph.
