This is one of 959 photographs (or images) of the Exhibition Building collated by the Exhibition Trustees as a 10 volume pictorial history of the Exhibition Building spanning the years 1880 to 1985. The pictorial history was instigated by the centenary of the Exhibition Building in 1980 and forms part of a larger Royal Exhibition Building collection of documents, photographs, objects and research files.

The image depicts Her Royal Highness Princess Alexandra walking with Exhibition Trustees Chairman Mr Freeman Strickland OBE towards the Grollo Fountain on the eastern boundary of the Carlton Gardens, directly in line with the front of Centennial Hall. The buildings of the College of Mary Immaculate on Nicholson Street are reflected in the glass facade of Centennial Hall in the background, while earth moving and construction machinery parked in the right background indicate how recently the Centennial Garden landscaping was completed. There is a printed caption below the photograph.
