This is one of 959 photographs (or images) of the Exhibition Building collated by the Exhibition Trustees as a 10 volume pictorial history of the Exhibition Building spanning the years 1880 to 1985. The pictorial history was instigated by the centenary of the Exhibition Building in 1980 and forms part of a larger Royal Exhibition Building collection of documents, photographs, objects and research files.

Description of Content

The image depicts three men, two riflemen and a drummer, wearing reproduction Victorian colonial military uniforms standing in front of the main entrance to the Royal Exhibitions Building's eastern annexe. Behind them, two women in late nineteenth century attired are walking towards the eastern annexe, one of them looking back over her shoulder at the men. Strung across the entrance to the eastern annexe is a blue banner which reads 'The Melbourne International Centenary Exhibition', with the dates 1880 and 1980 in the upper corners.
