This is one of 959 photographs (or images) of the Exhibition Building collated by the Exhibition Trustees as a 10 volume pictorial history of the Exhibition Building spanning the years 1880 to 1985. The pictorial history was instigated by the centenary of the Exhibition Building in 1980 and forms part of a larger Royal Exhibition Building collection of documents, photographs, objects and research files.

Colour photograph taken from the northern side of Collins Street, slightly west of the intersection of Russell and Collins Streets, looking westwards, showing the banners hang from light posts to mark the Melbourne International Centenary Exhibition in 1980. Also visible are red tinsle Christmas decorations closer to the intersection of Collins and Swanston Streets, and the signage of the Regent Theatre, partly obscurred by the tree foliage, on the southern side of Collins Street.
