Black & white photograph of the unveiling of a commemorative plaque by Air Commodore PJ Reed, DFC, RAAF, on 17 March 1981, in recognition of the 40th anniversary of the occupation of the Royal Exhibition Building's and grounds by the RAAF from 1940-46.

This is one of 959 photographs (or images) of the Exhibition Building collated by the Exhibition Trustees as a 10 volume pictorial history of the Exhibition Building spanning the years 1880 to 1985. The pictorial history was instigated by the centenary of the Exhibition Building in 1980 and forms part of a larger Royal Exhibition Building collection of documents, photographs, objects and research files.

Description of Content

Black & white photograph depicting the unveiling by Air Commodore Reed of a commemorative plaque on the 17 March 1981 to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the RAAF occuping the Royal Exhibition Buildings and grounds from 1940-46. Air Commodore Reed stands to the plaque's left, while on the right is Mr Freeman Strickland, OBE, Exhibition Trustees Chairman and a former Spitfire pilot.
