Summary

Yellow ribbons which were used as a symbol of hope and support by Victorians to honour those who perished or were injured during and after the fires of Black Saturday 2009. These ribbons were produced after Black Saturday and were supplied free of charge from Spotlight stores in February and March 2009.

Physical Description

Yellow ribbon folded in half to make a 'V", with a brass safety pin holding the folded portions together.

Significance

The wearing of ribbons is an emblem of individual support for many causes within Australia. When Spotlight distributed these ribbons free of charge they were giving members of the public the chance to express sympathy and solidarity for communities in the bushfire-affected zones.
