One of 44 black and white photographs in an album bound in green suede, believed to have been taken by Sergeant Major Gilbert Payne Mulcahy during World War I. It documents his military service in Egypt, France, Belgium and his return to Australia via Capetown and the Quarantine Station, Point Nepean, 1916-1919.
Image depicting Camps Bay, South Africa, where several figures are swimming in the bay. The Twelve Apostle mountain range is identified in the background of the photograph. The image is dated to March 1919.
Description of Content
Image of a bay. On the beach there are figures who appear to be prostrate or seated. There is a collection of rocks towards the middle of the photograph that some figures appear to be climbing. To the left of these rocks there is structure of some kind and in the background there are more structures.
