Summary
One of 44 black and white photographs in an album bound in green suede, believed to have been taken by Sergeant Major Gilbert Payne Mulcahy during World War I. It documents his military service in Egypt, France, Belgium and his return to Australia via Capetown and the Quarantine Station, Point Nepean, 1916-1919.
Image depicting three unknown servicemen, two of whom appear to have been for a swim. The inscription identifies the location as Front Beach in April 1919. It is therefore likely that this image was taken after Sergeant Major Mulcahy's return to Australia.
Description of Content
Three men standing on what appears on a sandy shoreline all looking at the camera. The man on the left is in uniform with his hands on his hips. The man in the middle is shorts and what looks to be a jumper, a towel is draped around his neck. The man on the right is wearing what looks to be the bottom part of his uniform and an shirt with its sleeves rolled up to the elbows. A towel is draped around his neck. The two men with towels appear to have wet and slightly dishevelled hair.
