Large World War I Australian recruitment poster, titled 'We Took the Hill. Come and Help Us Keep It'. Drawing features a wounded soldier with a bloodied head bandage, holding a rifle, a dead or unconscious soldier lies at his feet. His position on a hill with sea in the background, above which shell bursts appear, suggests Gallipoli. The 'Hill' may be Hill 60 at Gallipoli, in August 1915.

The poster was printed by W.A. Gullick, Government Printer, Sydney. It may have been commissioned by either the government of New South Wales or the Federal Government.

Physical Description

Large poster with bold inscription above full colour drawing, on cream-coloured paper. Drawing features a wounded soldier with a bloodied head bandage, holding a rifle. He is standing on a hill with sea in the background, above which shell bursts appear. A dead or unconscious soldier lies at his feet, blood flowing from a head wound. The power has cream-coloured edges, cut somewhat roughly in places. It is adhered onto a foam-core backing.
