The man on the left is James Palmer, Postmaster for Footscray Station. Third from the left is his son, John Joseph Palmer, who was the mail sorter. James Palmer worked at Footscray station for 47 years and died in 1909. He was the first Postmaster of Yarraville in 1876.
This image is part of a collection of photographs, negatives and slides used for research by curators at Museum Victoria.
