Item X 16922 Ornament, neck. Wongaitu. Darwin, North, Northern Territory, Australia. 1911

Physical Description

A multistrand ornament made of vegetable fibre string and overwound at one end. A pendant of animal fur is secured in the centre.

Significance

This is a very rare and distinctive ornament that was made for a young Tiwi man to wear while going through an initiation ceremony.
