He had been sent to the camp of Emmanuel, son of Shaddai (Almighty), who led the campaign to reclaim the fictional town of Mansoul. One of a series of 12 printed lantern slides depicting the story of The Holy War, originally written in 1682 by John Bunyan.
Part of a collection of 126 slides previously located together in a wooden box. The collection contains photographic, printed and hand painted slides depicting landscapes, buildings, scientific drawings, animals and religious stories.
Description of Content
Painted image of a man in a red cape on one knee in front of a group of men talking to one another. The most prominent of these sits on a higher chair, wearing a white robe, purple cape and gold hat or helmet, and gesturing sidewards.
