Descriptive pamphlet with map of the Suez Canal, it was collected by Daisy Poole during a voyage from Australia to Britain from May-June 1938. This pamphlet was kept as a souvenir by Daisy who was 12 years old at the time of her voyage to the UK from Australia.
It contains tourist information for ship's passengers during their transit of the Suez Canal. It includes information on sights and services with a street map on the back page.
Physical Description
Single sheet folded into a four page descriptive tourist pamphlet with the P&O crest and 'Suez Canal' in red and blue on the front cover. Two printed inner pages and a street map on the reverse.
Significance
Daisy Poole's souvenir pamphlet has dual significance as a personal record of the migration experience of one family and as a rare surviving relic of the SS Jervis Bay, the most famous of the five 'Bay' ships built for the Commonwealth Shipping Line.
