One of eleven black and white negatives previously housed in an envelope belonging to David Ralph Goodwin, RAN. The negatives depict battleships and portraits of sailors at Cockatoo Island, Sydney Harbour.
David Ralph Goodwin was born 14 November 1921 in Mordialloc. He enlisted 11 May 1938 in Melbourne, service number 22112, and became an Able Seaman. He served on HMAS Ships Perth (May 19, 1939-June 6, 1941), Vendetta (June 12, 1941-August 28, 1941), Hobart (August 29, 1941-September 4, 1942) and Cerberus (September 5, 1942-July 21, 1943). He was serving on the HMAS Cerberus in June 1943 when he was diagnosed as suffering from anxiety neuroses. He was discharged on 21 July 1943. He formed the ex-HMAS Perth Association in 1966.
