Description of Content
Ross Ice Barrier or polar Ice in the distance. At the forefront on the left, there appears to be part of a scientific tow net resting on the surface of the water. The men responsible for these nets on the ship Discovery II were known at Netmen. The nets were of several different sizes and mesh types. It was said by an authority that 'the mouth of one tow net was the size of a dinner plate, while another was believed to be the largest in the world...'. Photograph taken during the Ellsworth Relief Expedition, 1935-1936.
