Summary
This twined conical basket by Lillian Guymala has horizontal bands of pink and orange dyed pandanus. Twined conical baskets have a long history in the area, predating the arrival of missionaries and they served many functions. The four stringed handle on the basket has been woven into the structure of the basket.
Lillian Guymala sometimes makes conical baskets or variations of this form in coiling, often using pink and orange dyes.
