Summary

This coiled basket by Louise Nganjmirra has been completed with a diamond design, and has four diamonds in white dyed pandanus with vertical bands of dyed pandanus (yellow and purple). The colours used come from a wet season palette and the intensity of the colours is determined by the amount of dyestuff and the amount of raw material placed in the dye bath.

Louise Nganjmirra lives at Kudjekbinj, an outstation, and produces coiled baskets that contain highly geometric patterning, including step and diamond designs, such as in this example.

Physical Description

Basket, coiled, with four diamonds in dyed pandanus (white) with vertical bands of dyed pandanus (yellow and purple). It has a single coiled rigid handle that emerges from the last coil bundle on the rim.
