Summary
This handbag by Heather Nawirridj is made in the style of a string bag but made with pandanus. The bag retains the classic rectangular form but not the same flexibility as the normal string bag. It has been looped with an oval opening and a braided handle. While such forms are created for selling through the Injalak Arts Centre at Gunbalanya, Kunwinjku women make string bags for sale and also for their own use.
Heather Nawirridj's speciality is making looped pandanus bags, such as this.
