A balloon used with an aerial, type M-278-A, in original unopened container.
Balloons were supplied in rescue or survival radio kits, and were used to hoist an aerial when still conditions prevented the use of an aerial kite. They were used in military applications such as in the dinghies of downed airmen. The balloon was inflated using hydrogen.
Physical Description
Cylindrical metal can with lid, unopened. Key (sardine tin style) on top is missing. Printed label with orange background and extensive instructional text and illustrations in black ink. Two illustrations showing detail of apparatus.
