Summary
Bank note issued by the Bank of Victoria Limited, Kyneton on 7 March 1905 and signed by Ellen Luigg. It was issued to Henry Hahn for a sum of sixteen pounds, seventeen shillings and six pence. Henry Hahn was a butcher at Redesdale, Victoria and this bank note was probably a payment for goods.
In 1893 The Oakleigh Leader reported that Mr Hahn was the victim of fraud after a man named Simon O'Shea gave Mr Hahn a cheque for 10 pounds to settle an account of 2 pounds, 2 shillings and 10 pence. Mr Hahn presented Mr O'Shea with 7 pounds, 17 shillings and 2 pence in change. However Mr Hahn found on presentation to the bank that the cheque was valueless and a warrant was issued for Mr O'Shea's arrest.
Henry Friedrich Hahn migrated to Victoria from Kiel, Germany via England in 1865. He established himself as a butcher at Redesdale, Victoria and was naturalised in 1897.
