Summary
Typewritten transcript of the speech given by the Hon. William Alexander Watt, at the unveiling of a tablet on 'The Smithy' on 25 September 1928. The Smithy was re-erected at the Sunshine Harvester Works entrance to commemorate the manufacture of the first harvester by Hugh Victor McKay. It was a feature of Sunshine until its donation to the Science Museum of Victoria in 1960.
W.A. Watt was conservative politician at both state and federal levels. He was the Premier of Victoria (1912-1913), Treasurer of Australia (1918-1920), Acting Prime Minister (1918-1919) and federal minister for Works and Railways (1917-1918) and Trade and Customs (1918-1919). At the time of the unveiling of the smithy, he was the federal member for Balaclava.
