Summary

This painting could be the earliest known depiction on bark of a pregnant female spirit figure with a foetus. This is one of five bark paintings donated to the museum by Dr George Horne in 1922. One was later exchanged with the Australian Museum in Sydney. They were most likely collected in the late1800s or around 1900.
