Summary

Hand-drums are known as kwang-gu in Iatmul and are essential in the accompaniment of singing. Two birds are carved on the handle of the drum. These are probably cockatoos, and are probably clan totems.

A hand drum. Its tympanum is missing. Both the body and the handle are ornately carved.
