Summary

This type of shield was presented to young men who had completed the third stage of their initiation. It is slightly narrower at the bottom than at the top, with a slight vertical ridge at the top. The handle is a U-shaped loop of thick rattan fastened through four pairs of holes in the board attached to cross pieces. A strap to facility movement is attached. the shield may be designed for defence, rather than offence.

A fighting shield carved from wood. The front of the shield is carved, and the back has a cane handle attached.
