Photograph in oval mount of a World War I monument at Bunyip, Victoria. It consists of a cupola on four columns, with a column on a three-stepped base. The cupola is topped with a white ball, perhaps a light. Today the ball has been replaced with a cross. The monument is located at Main Road and High Street, Bunyip.
The monument was unveiled by on 9 February 1921. The Argus reported on 12 February 1921 that 'A memorial stone to fallen soldiers was unveiled in Bunyip on Wednesday last. The stone, which contains the names of 36 soldiers, was designed and erected by Messrs A. and G. Henderson, of Lygon street, North Carlton, and is a fine piece of workmanship. Councillor Pearson, president of the shire, presided, and addresses were delivered by Messrs. R. Janes (president of the Returned Soldiers League) and Groves, M.L.A., who performed the unveiling.' This photograph may depict the monument at the unveiling as it has many wreaths placed around its base and positioned further up the structure.
