Summary

Hand-written letter on Y.M.C.A. letterhead, from Private Frederick Henry Hutchinson (service number 6093) of D Company, 27th Battalion, to Miss Florence Crossley, c/o Red Cross Society, Newbridge, Victoria (named in other letters from this collection). Private Hutchinson thanks 'My dear friend' for sending him socks and asparagus fern which he received while in hospital. Miss Crossley sent many other comforts to soldiers.

Private Hutchinson enlisted as a 31-year-old farmer in Lameroo, South Australia, on 9 August 1916. He served with the 27th Battalion in France. He was hospitalized with a 'pyrexia of uncertain origin' in July and August 1917, then in October received a shell wound in his arm and legs. He was sent to England, then back to Australia in early 1918. He was discharged medically unfit in July 1918.
