Summary
Alternative names: Gaming Machine, One Arm Bandit, Slot Machine, Pokie
Gaming machine manufactured in Australia by VLC in the early 1990s. It was one of the first machines activated by Tattersalls after they were granted a licence to operate poker machines in Victoria in 1992. These original machines were located at the Zagames Matthew Flinders Hotel in Chadstone, launched on 6 August.
It is a touchscreen, multigame machine, which were not common in Australia at the time. Games on offer included poker, keno and reel games. Many of the machines were in operation for over 10 years, with periodic upgrades to the games and the translite artwork on the front. A framed example of the original artwork, representing the most played and popular game 'Bonus 5's', is in the museum's collection (HT 34102.)
The gaming machine was later used as a display item at the national headquarters of Tattersalls in St Kilda Road, Melbourne, until their relocation to Queensland in 2013.
