Summary
Souvenir badge created in 1959 to commemorate the four month visit to Australia by Christian evangelist, Billy Graham. It is estimated that over 3 million Australians heard Graham preach during his visit to the major Australian cities - Melbourne, Launceston, Hobart, Sydney, Brisbane, Canberra, Adelaide and Perth. Great choral crusades were held in Melbourne and Sydney. The sold-out performance in Melbourne was held at the Myer Music Bowl, while in Sydney two choirs performed in unison, but in different venues: one at the showgrounds and the other next door at the Sydney Cricket Ground.
This badge belonged to Amy Turner, a member of the Uniting Church. Amy had a strong commitment to religion and social justice. Her small collection of badges and mementos captures some of the campaigns she championed, as well as other events that took place in Melbourne during her lifetime.
