This stereograph was sold as a Rose's Stereoscopic View, by George Rose, Melbourne. It is titled 'Duke of York Celebrations Melbourne / Children's Fete, Exhibition Oval / Victorian Cadets'. It shows the Royal Exhibition Building, Carlton. The Duke of York, who was the son of King Edward VII, visited Australia in May 1901 as the King's representative for Australia's Federation. The Duke declared the new Federal Parliament open in a grand ceremony in the Exhibition Building in Melbourne on 9 May 1901.
