Summary

An envelope addressed to England with several stamps attached. The most prominent stamp is one from the Motor Show held at the Exhibition Building in 1940. The tag line of the stamp is 'Trade or Perish' which confirms the importance of trade to Australia at the beginning of World War II. The stamp also asks visitors to 'Display Confidence in Our Empire Leaders'. The envelope was opened by the censor and was passed, as shown by an attached sticker and accompanying ink mark. The postage stamps on the envelope (there are four) show various Australian animals including kangaroos and a lyrebird. One stamp also shows a merino sheep, again emphasising the importance of trade to the Australian economy.
