One of thirteen black and white photographs that relate to the 24th Battalion of the Australian Imperial Force (AIF), during World War I. Part of a larger collection that was donated by the Returned Servicemen's League of Australia Limited (RSL).
Description of Content
Debris scattered across the landscape after the Battle of Mouquet Farm, part of the Somme Offensive. There are small groups of soldiers in the background. This position was the scene of severe trench warfare, neither side holding it for more than a few hours at a time. It eventually became, in that particular period of fighting, part of no man's land.
