Summary
Copy of a medal of Giovanna Albizzi in two halves. The original medal was made about 1486. This Electrotype copy made circa 1881. Original medal by (?). British Museum electrotype made by Robert Ready. The original medal was acquired by the British Museum and was exhibited in the King's Library in 1881. It is No. 58 in the catalogue of that exhibition. It is thought that this electrotype was produced in association with that exhibition and publication and acquired by the National Gallery of Victoria where it was displayed in the late 1880s.
Giovanna Albizzi was the daughter of Tommaso degli Albizzi of Florence. Married Lorenzo Tornabuoni on 15 June 1486 and died in childbirth two years later, aged 20.
