Inscriptions
On the obverse:AUSIPEX 84/ REPORTER/ 29TH SEPTEMBER, 1984/ CLEVER CAR COUNTERS/ How many beans make five?/ Perhaps the better question would be 'How many stamps cover a car?'/ Lots of people are visiting the stamp covered car and trying to guess/ how many are covering the yellow duco./ Watching the technique is interesting./ Some painstakingly set about counting each individual stamp hoping they/ won't be bumped or distracted somewhere round 2500 or whatever./ Others try to get a total along one side of a panel and then count along/the other./ Then comes the multiplication and the adding to the running total ! !/ Sue Walker and Judy Jifkins said they were intrigued by the variety of/ methods used to reach the totals being handing to them for processing by/ Hewlett Packard computer/ Did you know the number of stamps on the car will be into a computer/ and it will sort out the winning entry?/ For the wide variety of totals there is obviously a lot of wild guesswork/ amid the studied calculations./ Getting the car from the Armagard security base at Port Melbourne had its problems, thanks to the heavy rain that has been sweeping across Melbourne/this past week/ Eventually the car, donated by Toyota, was brought up tastefully swathed/ in waterproof covers/ IT would have been a great pity for all of those people who have been/ patiently licking sticking stamps if the Melbourne moisture had caused some peeling ! !/ The car's owner will be known next Sunday when the computer selects the/ winner.
