Summary

A small booklet published at the completion of the XVI Olympiad with a complete list of results and records. Printed by DW Paterson, the souvenir booklet was sponsored by Sir Frank Beaurepaire, founder of the Olympic Tyre & Rubber Company in 'the interests of Amateur Sport'.

The Games of the XVI Olympiad were held in Melbourne and Ballarat from 22 November to 8 December 1956. Participants competed in 17 sports: athletics, basketball, fencing, soccer, modern pentathlon, weight-lifting, boxing, hockey, yachting, shooting, rowing, swimming, wrestling, cycling, gymnastics, canoeing, and demonstrations.

This booklet belonged to Pamela Enright who attended three Olympic events: athletics at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on 28 November and cycling and swimming at Olympic Park on 3 December.

Physical Description

Small paper booklet, stapled on spine. All pages printed in yellow and green (the sporting colours of Australia) on cream paper. The front cover features an image of the Melbourne Cricket Ground superimposed in the upper right with an image of a discus thrower. The back cover features an image of the discuss thrower and an image of an Olympic tyre.
