Summary

A small, lead paperweight in the form of a battery, manufactured for Vesta Battery Co. Pty Ltd as a souvenir of the centenary of European settlement of Melbourne and Victoria, 1934-35.

The centenary was celebrated with a wide range of events and activities - the relocation of 'Cooks' Cottage from England to Melbourne', the Centenary Air Race, the royal visit of the Duke of Gloucester - all of which generated souvenirs. But the year of celebrations also created a market for generic souvenirs, which businesses like Vesta Battery Co. Pty Ltd were able to cash in on.
