Leopold Kershaw Lawrey, son of John and Elizabeth, was an active member of various clubs. He played cricket, football, golf and bowls. He was also a Shire Councillor. During World War II, Leo and his wife Dot brought a concert group from 3AW to Kinglake to raise money for the war effort and the Kinglake Memorial Hall.

The photograph is taken in the grounds of 'The Uplands' farm, the stables and sheds can be seen behind the group. This is part of a collection of family photographs that relate to 'The Uplands' homestead. The Lawrey family were early settlers in the Kinglake area and lived in 'The Uplands' homestead from the late 1890s to 1950. The chimney from 'The Uplands' forms part of the Victorian Bushfires Collection. 'The Uplands' was destroyed in the 2009 Black Saturday Bushfires.
