Ruston & Hornsby, later known as Ruston, was an industrial equipment manufacturer in Lincoln, England, the company's history going back to 1840. The company is best known as a manufacturer of narrow and standard gauge diesel locomotives and steam shovels.

Description of Content
Workers in a long pit, possibly installing a circular structure. The workers are doing a variety of tasks, including hammering and shovelling. In the background at the edge of the pit is a Ruston crawler-mounted excavator, it is carrying a load of dirt in the bucket, to be placed in railway carts. Either side of the pit are picket fences.
